Accounts Payable Clerk – 12 Month Contract

Why this role is important?

Reporting directly to the Manager, Accounts Payable – Non Merchandise Vendor Services, incumbent will perform a variety of accounts payable functions to accurately record and process payment of vendor invoices. The team’s responsibilities include all non-merchandise vendor activities including store maintenance, Central Office, occupancy, utilities and Rx returns.

What You’ll Do:

  • Works effectively with Non-Merchandise vendors, real estate, and other corporate departments as necessary to process and pay non-merchandise expenses in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Completes all duties required within the accounts payable cycle: entering invoices, matching invoices to purchase orders in the accounts payable system, coding and processing check requests and ensuring all invoices are authorized for processing and payment.
  • Addresses enquiries received from vendors and internal departments in a timely manner.
  • Supplies copies of invoices and other supporting documents to promptly resolve issues and concerns.
  • Reviews vendor statements, invoices and debits to identify discrepancies and request reimbursements as applicable to resolve issues.
  • Monitors status of invoices placed on hold.
  • Reviews accounts payable batches to identify any errors or adjustments required before further processing.
  • Reconciles accounts as necessary.
  • Prepares period end accruals as necessary.
  • Receives, organizes and files all supplier invoices and related accounts payable documentation.
  • Participates in any other special projects undertaken by the department as necessary.
  • Participates in training when there are system or process changes.

What You’ll Need:

  • Minimum post-secondary education.
  • 1-2 years of accounts payable experience is necessary.
  • Accounting courses or equivalent would be beneficial.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting systems (Lawson or SAP), automated payment methods, and accounts payable would be an asset.
  • Proficient computer skills – Word and Excel as well as ability to produce effective reports, documents and presentations.

  • Initiative and judgment – ability to organize and prioritize tasks and workload.
  • Accuracy – ability to pay close attention to details; ensuring work is done correctly and thoroughly.
  • Ability to function in pressure situations.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
