Accounting Clerk

THE ROLE

Under the supervision of the Non Public Property Base Accounting Manager, the Accounting Clerk codes, totals, batches, enters, verifies and reconciles transactions related to accounts payables and receivables, payroll, purchase orders, cheques, invoices, cheque requisitions, and bank statements in a ledger or computer system.

The Accounting Clerk calculates, prepares, and issues documents or reports related to accounting such as financial statements and other managerial information reports, using computerized and manual systems. They receive source accounting documents, verifies for policy compliance and enters them in the appropriate accounting registers. The Accounting Clerk also verifies the accuracy and integrity and assists in the preparation of financial statements and other management reports.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED

Education, Certifications and Licenses

High school diploma

Experience

  • In accounting
  • In Automated Based Accounting Control & Information System (PROPHET) software, an asset
  • In data entry, data manipulation, record-keeping and retrieval techniques
  • In drafting correspondence and reports
  • In office administration
  • In providing customer service
  • In maintaining electronic and manual filing systems

Knowledge

  • Of accounting software/system
  • Of accounting rules & regulations for all provinces
  • Of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Of office administration practices and procedures
  • Of filing systems and records management

Competencies, Skills and Abilities

Client focus, organizational knowledge, communication, innovation, teamwork and leadership.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

English or French Essential, Bilingual an asset

Reading: Basic

Writing: Basic

Oral: Functional

CFMWS’ Finance division provides relevant, reliable, and cost effective financial management and accounting services to support the success of CFMWS operations.

This Category I unionized position is open to all CFMWS employees. Preference will be granted in accordance with the Collective Agreement for the PSAC bargaining unit for CFMWS Category I employees at CFSG (Ottawa-Gatineau).
