Help us boldly shape retail in Canada

Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited (“CTC”) is one of Canada’s most admired and trusted companies. With world-class Owned Brands and exciting market-leading merchandising strategies, we are continually innovating with purpose: to be there for Canadians from coast-to-coast. We are relentlessly focused on innovating at every level of our business, investing in new technologies and products, and doubling down on the best talent to drive the company forward. It is an especially exciting time to join Canadian Tire and its group of companies.

Reporting to the Manager of Merchandise Planning (MMP), the Category Business Planner (CBP) is accountable for setting annual plan, weekly financial forecasts and optimizing operational targets across a line of business (LOB). Working closely with the Merchandise Associate Vice President (AVP) and Category Business Managers (CBM), the CBP will utilize planning frameworks and tools to provide recommendations to deliver results on the financial plans/forecasts. Each CBP directly supports a Merchandise AVP.

At Canadian Tire we work flexibility embracing ‘Hybrid’ whereby individuals utilize a combination of working at a CTC campus and or virtually in service of outcomes. Determined by managers, decisions around work location will be made based on business and team needs and grounded in a desire to support individual well-being and personal needs. Our goal is to empower teams and individuals to make the right decisions for them, and we expect that to look different for everyone.

What you’ll do

The CBP is responsible for acting as the key contributor to setting annual financial plans for specific business categories and managing the in-year planning process across various business groups. • Providing effective planning support that includes the ongoing management of LOB and business category level weekly financial forecasts, annual planning, and setting monthly operational targets
  • Analyzing and compiling data to help identify areas of financial risk and opportunity in forward looking forecasts
  • Providing on-going ad-hoc support to merchandise buying teams with data analysis
  • Contributing to the growth of the department through participation in various process and system improvement initiatives as required
  • Translating Annual Plan and operational metrics into goals for cross-functional stakeholders (promotional planning, supply chain, forecasting, replenishment, etc.) and working collaboratively with those teams to resolve operational hurdles in a frank and pragmatic manner

Who you are

We are looking for individuals who are:

  • Creative and courageous, with the ability to manage in an environment of change and ambiguity to help us take bold, strategic moves in this rapidly evolving retail environment
  • Action oriented, and comfortable taking calculated risks to better serve our customers and business
  • Outcome focused, critical thinkers with the ability to analyze and visualize, to ensure continuous improvement across our entire business
  • Collaborative team players with superior influencing skills, who build relationships easily across various stakeholder groups to move initiatives forward

If you’re curious, ready to take on new challenges and open to doing things differently to help us evolve rapidly, then this is definitely the place to be.

What you bring

The business is looking for someone who can build strong relationships and collaborate cross-functionally. In this role it is critical that you have the ability to handle difficult conversations. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are also very important. You should be able to communicate recommendations in a clear and concise manner through multiple formats. We are looking for candidates who have a broad understanding of category management principles and who are comfortable dealing with ambiguity.
