THE ROLE
Recreation Counsellors supervise children in our summer camp facilitating program plans while fostering a safe, fun and inclusive environment. As a recreation counsellor, you will support senior camp staff in implementing the daily summer camp program, including; crafts, activities, swimming and sports. The recreation counsellor provides direction and guidance to campers, communicate with parents and other recreation staff regarding children’s needs and behavior’s to ensure their success while attending summer camp. Recreation counsellors ensure the safety of children and provide emergency or first aid assistance, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED
Education, Certifications and Licenses
High School diploma AND some years of experience in a related field
OR
An acceptable combination of education, training, and experience will also be considered
AND
Current CPR and Standard First Aid certification
Successful completion of the Principles of Healthy Child Development and Quest 2 certification, HIGH FIVE, by end of probation
Experience
In working with children
In leading children in activities
In planning children’s programs and activities
In applying safety protocols and procedures
Knowledge
Of camp recreation programs
Of health and safety practices
Of group dynamics
Of injury prevention practices
Competencies, Skills and Abilities
