Registered Nurse

Your Opportunity: The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department (ED) is a leader and pivotal member of the inter-professional team.

The successful candidate will work as a team member within the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital ED providing patient and family-centered care throughout the life span, in all stages of health and complexities of illness.

Collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of individuals and families, the ED RN will demonstrate skill in nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health; assisting with the treatment of trauma-associated injury; and ability to support a peaceful death.

The successful candidate will be accountable to the public for his/her own practice, ensuring adherence with legislative requirements and the practice standards of the College and Association of Registered Nurses Alberta (CARNA).

Description: As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being.

In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families.

You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.

You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support
– Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, high acuity, and unpredictable environment.

Strong physical assessment, critical thinking, and decision making/problem solving skills.

Well organized and proficient at prioritizing tasks.

Proven written/oral communication skills.

Demonstrated computer knowledge.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other members of the inter-professional team.

Accountability for own professional practice.

Preferred Qualifications: Three to five years of nursing experience in acute care.

One to two years of recent Emergency and/or Critical Care experience.

ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC, EPIC certification, and skill in cardiac monitoring.

CNA Emergency Nursing certification.

Experience with patient/family centered care and collaborative practice.
