Special Needs Facilitator

This is a Contract position in Barrie, ON posted May 9, 2022.

THE ROLE

Under the supervision of Community Recreation Coordinator, monitors, supervises and supports special needs participants in recreation programs within a variety of settings (e.g. lunch, bus loading/unloading, playground, gym, pool, washroom, field trips, public transportation, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive environment; conducts personal care and health needs; these needs may include lifting and transferring, movement and positioning, feeding, toileting, changing and diapering, and approved administration of medication/medical procedures (e.g. catheterization), with appropriate training provided; assists with the development, planning and implementation of inclusive recreational activities for children with special needs; liaises with summer day camp staff, parents and other service providers; assists the programs staff in the integration of participants into the recreation programs.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED

Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Education, Recreation or a related field AND some years of experience in a related field
OR
College diploma or certificate in Child Development, Recreation, Special Education Assistant, Special Needs Worker Program, or a related field AND several years of experience in a related field
OR
High school diploma AND extensive experience in a related field
AND
Vulnerable Sector Screening

HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development
Current CPR and Basic First Aid qualifications
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification
Behavior Management Systems Certification
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)/Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI) Therapy training, an asset

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

English Essential, Bilingual an asset

Reading: Functional

Writing: Functional

Oral: Functional
